You have three options of housing in Edinburgh provided by us or our subsidiary company Places for People Scotland:

  • Social rent
  • Mid market rent
  • Market rent

Social Rent

We advertise and allocate homes for social rent in Edinburgh through EH Your Key to Choice. When a property becomes vacant anyone who registered with us can place a "bid", which is a note of interest in the property. We will allocate the property to the first suitable applicant on the list.

You need to register with EdIndex before you can bid for our properties.  You can get an application form by:

When your form is processed you can start to express interest in suitable properties. Log on weekly to Key to Choice to find available properties or phone the EdIndex team at the City of Edinburgh Council on 0131 529 5080.

Mid market rent

This type of rented property might suit you if are working but can't afford market rent. Rents are set at a level between market rents and those set by councils and housing associations. We provide flooring, curtains or blinds and some come with white goods. You need to earn a minimum of £1000 a month and earn no more than £39,000 in a year. We ask for a security deposit which is equivalent to one month's rent plus £100. So if the rent is £500 the deposit is £600. This is held by an independent tenancy deposit scheme until the tenancy ends.

We will prioritise you if you are:

  • Currently a housing association or council tenant or are on a waiting list with them
  • You are a key worker providing essential public services such as, in education, health or similar
  • Have a local connection.

We advertise online at Rightmove and Citylets or contact Places for People Scotland on 0131 657 5139.

Market rent

Market rents would suit you if you are in work and earning at least £1500 each month. We ask for a security deposit which is equivalent to one month's rent plus £100. So if the rent is £500 the deposit is £600. This is held by an independent tenancy deposit scheme until the tenancy ends. Properties come with floor coverings, curtains or blinds, kitchen appliances and electric showers.

We advertise online at Rightmove and Citylets or contact Places for People Scotland on 0131 657 5139.
